"Czech Me Out":Teresa's Happa-nin's Vol 4
Helloooooo!
First of all I must say.....I'M NOT DEAD! Incase, you were worried...Second I must apologize (again) for my lack of writting. Things have been kinda crazy over here (I had to create, give and grade 4 mid term exams and write over 37 reports on my students...). Plus, as you all know, I'm not pc-hip, add that to having oooooold slow computers, internet working inconsistantly, and a very busy schedule..and...well...there you have it...sorry yal... :o(
Anyhoo, heres what's been happanin in my life...
Job: I changed my contract with Fishnet (the school I came out here to work for) so that I can also teach in other places. I think I've mentioned the "pre-school" before. If not, here's the scoop: It's an international pre-school near Poruba and since I love children, ( and I need more finances...) I've been working there about 2 times a week. I also started working for another language school called Svet. (again... I had the "Italian disease":'mafundsalo' TRANSLATION: my funds are low/not much money). So now my schedule is pretty busy. I'm working hard to try and raise money to come home for a little while or at least bring Nay (my daughter) out for a visit. Please check out my web site: www.teresafund.com for info on how you can help and see pix on what I've been doing here.
Singing: That's still happanin. The gig in December was moved to January and the Ball didn't happen. (bummer...) But I do have another gig comming up on March 13th! I may also be singing in a concert the Alpha Gospel Praises Choir later this month. The lead singer from a popular Czech band is also supposed to be singing in the concert as well. Woo hoo!
Community Outreach: I was in a discussion group at a church for a teen movie night a while back. I also arranged a few outings with my students. We went to some basketball games, an art exhibit, pizza parlor, etc. Last month I was a 'singer-for-hire' at a fundraiser for the YMCA Winter Ball. Comming up, there will be more movie nights, more basketball and baseball season is approaching soon. Depending on when and if I go home, I'm planning on helping with the Sr & Jr Hi summer language camp with Fishnet and Young Life.
Traveling: With my finances and schedule being what they are, I have not been able to go many places. However, I did mention in my last letter that I was going to London for Christmas. I did go and it was very nice. I was able to stay for 2 weeks: one week in London/South Chelsea area and the second week in Loughton, Essex (about 35 mins outside of London). Christmas just wasnt the same without being with my close loved ones, but I still "felt the love" thanks to Skype, re-aquainted old friends and good new friends!
I was also able to visit Prague again for a few days in February (my birthday month!!!) I have some pix posted on my myspace and on my website if you'd like to see them. I'm hoping to get over to Poland, Spain and Italy by the end of of the school year.....we'll see......
Health: I don't know what's in the air here, but I've never been soo frequently ill in all my life. They say it's just my body "adjusting" to the environment. Not to sound like a bummer, but since arriving, I have a cold once a month. Let's see..I've had the stomach flu twice, bronchitis twice and recently, a bad case of salmonella poisoning...yaaay.. The good thing is my blood pressure and cholesterol have been under control and the best part is..... (...wait for it!!!!.......) I'VE LOST WEIGHT!!! Yaaay-woo hoo!!! Although it's hard for me to tell in pictures...let me know if you notice it!
Czech Lessons: I'm still having lessons once a week and I think I'm getting a little better. My last exam was 'horriiiiible' (prounced: "horeeee-blay"...every now and then, I need to sneak in some Espanole..... (I tried to spell it like the Spanairds..) I received a 61%...yikes! Some Czechs have said that I am "hesky" aka 'nice/good' with my Czech. I don't agree. I think they are just being..nice...no pun intended....
Well it looks like the internet is kinda acting up right now. (it's stopped and started three times) So I'm going to "sign off" for now. And just to be obnoxious, I'll say again.... pleeeeease check out my web-site: www.teresafund.com . My good friend/ web manager Michael has been working veery hard on it for me... and I could still use some help with 'funds' if you are interested and able.
Cau! (that's Czech slang for 'bye!')
Teresa
